Layout of Drawing Sheet
Effective planning and
organization of a drawing sheet enhance readability and facilitate information
sharing. A consistent layout guarantees that all crucial details necessary for
understanding the drawing are present, while also providing sufficient margins
for easy filing and binding when necessary.
Sheet sizes frames and borders:
The preferred sizes of
the drawing sheets recommended by the ISO. The trimmed (final dimensions of a
sheet of paper or board) sizes of the ISO-A series are given below. (Basic
principle, X:Y = 1:√2 )
Table: ISO paper
sizes in millimeters and in inches
Borders And Frames
The area between the
edges of the trimmed sheet and the frame is referred to as a border. The left
edge has a border width of 20 mm, while the other edges have a width of 10 mm.
The wider border on the left side is designed to facilitate filing without harming
the drawing area.

TITLE BLOCK
A title block is an
essential component for identifying, managing, and interpreting a drawing. It
is usually positioned in the bottom right-hand corner of the drawing frame,
making it easy to see even when the prints are folded as required. The
suggested dimensions for the title block are 170 mm × 65 mm, irrespective of
the size of the drawing sheet.
A title block should include the following
details:
1. Name
of the legal owner of the drawing
2. Title
of the drawing
3. Drawing
sheet number
4. The
scale
5. Symbol
indicating the angle of projection used
6. The
signature or initials of the staff designing, drawing, checking, approving
officer and issuing officer, along with dates.
7. Other
information, as required
SPACE FOR TEXT
The text area on a
drawing sheet must encompass all necessary details to comprehend the drawing's
content. This area should be situated along the right-hand frame of the drawing
space, as depicted in Figure below. Its width should align with the title
block, ranging from a maximum of 170 mm to a minimum of 100 mm. If the drawing
takes up the entire width of the sheet, the text area should be placed at the
bottom edge of the sheet, as illustrated in Figure below. The height of the
text area can be modified according to specific needs.
